Course Description:
This course explores innovative thinking, familiarization with drawing materials & basic
foundations of art elements & principles. Each assignment is structured to encourage creative solutions by engaging students actively in the thinking & design process. This course will prepare students for Art II level.

Course Objectives:
1. Learn the elements/principles of art necessary for creation of effective design.
2. Develop knowledge of the relationship between idea & visualization of idea
3. Awareness of basic design and organization
4. Individual expression through use of art tools & media, techniques & methods
5. Individual thinking & problem solving
6. Awareness of diverse approaches/ methods of creative expression

Course: ART II



Course Description: This course is designed to develop interest in design as a means of artistic expression. Areas of investigation will include theme, styles, media exploration, critical evaluation, portfolio development, art exhibition & career research

Course Objectives:
1. Increased visual awareness
2. Develop knowledge of the relationship between idea & visualization of idea
3. Foster reflective thinking & problem solving skills
4. Individual expression through use of art tools & media, techniques & methods
5. Analyze artistic styles, & characteristics, developing respect for divergent cultures/expression
6. make informed judgments about personal artworks

Course: ART III

Prerequisite: Introduction to Art 2

Course Description: An advanced level course in drawing and painting with an emphasis on developing a greater depth of understanding of art and application of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to their work in a variety of media. Studio experiences include drawing, painting, illustration, and soft sculpture projects. Each student will demonstrate progress over time by developing a body of work and organizing a portfolio

Course: ART IV

Prerequisite: Advanced Art and consent of instructor

Course Description: Art IV students s focused on iindependent thought and application of knowledge of the Elements and Principles to their work (everything that happens on a two-dimensional surface, regardless of media). Students must submit portfolio on a bi-weekly basis and write research paper on a visual artist and their works.
