March 17, 2020
The safety of our students and staff is our district’s priority. As more and more reported cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) come to light it is critical that we set up additional preventive measures to minimize the risk of our students and staff becoming infected with the virus in a school setting. In the best interest of students, staff, and our community, the district will delay the return of students back to school until March 30, 2020. In the event that the district closure is extended additional days we will let you know.
Only limited staff will report to work to complete critical functions such as maintenance, transportation, payroll, food service, police department., and some instructional support staff. Instructional materials for students have already been created and will be offered to students in hard copies or through online platforms. Updates and how to receive these materials will be posted on our campus/district marquees, school messenger, campus/district web pages, and social media. During this emergency closure, teachers will work from home to provide additional assistance and instruction to our students.
We will provide breakfast and lunch for our students during the closure to support our students and parents. In order to pick up the meals, the students must be in the vehicle and the student ID # must be given. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. and lunch at 12:00 p.m. The drive thru pick up stations are as follows:
1) High School and South Elementary students: Pick up location will be in front of the High School Gym;
2) Junior High, 5th Grade Campus, and North Elementary students: Pick up location will be in front of the Junior High Gym; and
3) Lucas, VV Elementary, and ECC students: Pick up location will be in front of the ECC Gym.
The district has been in contact with the Hidalgo County Health Department, the Texas Education Agency, and the Regional Educational Center to continue to receive updates and monitor the situation. We will notify you if any additional measures will be taken by the district. If you have any questions, you may call each of your respective campuses from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23rd, to Thursday, March 26th.
The health, safety, and well-being of our students, staff, and community remain the highest priority of Valley View ISD. On behalf of our Board of Trustees, we thank you for your understanding and continued support of these precautionary measures that have been taken to safeguard the health and safety of our students and staff.
