Medical Spanish Minor » Home

The Valley View High School Medical Spanish Minor Initiative was established at our high school based on the increasing need in our country to combat the language-based health disparity which this particular population confronts on a daily basis. This program is the only dual-enrollment program in Texas that uses Spanish Language and Literature classes to teach terminology and develop language skills specific to healthcare professions. We have established a multi-level tracking system for our students to acquire vocabulary and proficiency in Spanish. As students acquire advanced proficiency in their heritage language of Spanish, they benefit by hands-on experiences in the medical field. They implement the medical terminology from their coursework in the processes of interviewing patients, interpreting, and translating as they observe and participate in various healthcare professions.
